It's unusual times we live in at the moment. Many GP practices are run very efficiently and make lots of money for the GP partners, and many practices are run extremely inefficiently leaving the doctors with a salary significantly below the normal GP. A GP locum is sometimes a newly qualified GP, and as a locum they are expected to effectively run their business. This involves promoting themselves and getting work, managing invoicing & billing and managing their finances and accounts. It's no wonder many new GP locums feel slightly overwhelmed by this - a task they were not trained to do. I hope this trend in the National Health Service to more privatisation and doctors being expected to basically run a business does not continue, or at the very least - if it does that more training is offered.
